The Bombe Surprise summer ’14 collection is inspired by British tribes: punks, mods and skinheads - rebels born from oppression and injustice whose beliefs take expression in activism, music, fashion, art, dance.

The collection aims to illuminate ideas of cultural identity: who people are, where people are and where they think they’re from. Inspired by the work of Yinka Shonibare, it draws on post-colonialism to examine Britishness today: what are our the signifiers of our identity, and how they be re-imagined to express a multicultural society?

The clothes play with notions of tradition: using fabric with strong African associations but whose original journey threads through Indonesia, the Netherlands and production in Manchester; weaving skinhead and grunge culture with a multiracial, richly storied fabric. They examine the path of past sub cultures, and how they have been adopted today.
